Delayed maize floor price will affect farmers – Mooya

Moomba Member of Parliament Vitalis Mooya has observed that the delay by the government to announce the maize floor price will negatively affect most small scale farmers.

Mr Mooya notes that this is because not all small scale farmers can strongly bargain for better prices as government is advising them to do.

Mr. Mooya says this means that some farmers will be exploited by briefcase buyers.

He says government should announce the maize floor price so that farmers can compare and decide who is offering them the best price between government and the private sector.

Mooya notes that government should not forget that some farmers solely rely on the Food Reserve Agency to buy their maize hence government should announce the maize floor price.

Mr. Mooya has however encouraged farmers not to hesitate to sale their maize to private buyers who offer them better prices even as they wait for government to buy their maize.
