DEC arrests notorious Lusaka cocaine supplier

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a notorious drug supplier in Lusaka for trafficking in cocaine.

John Simango, 29, a businessman of Makeni area has been arrested for trafficking in 112 rocks of cocaine and one sachet of cocaine weighing 6.492g.

This is the fourth time Simango is being arrested for similar offences. In 2010, Simango served six months in prison for trafficking in cocaine. On 3rd August 2012, he was arrested for trafficking in four sachets of cocaine weighing 1.01g, followed by the third arrest at Manda Hill on 12th December 2012 for trafficking in 82 sachets of cocaine weighing 4.203 and four tablets of amphetamine weighing 0.865g.

Simango was apprehended on 27th June 2015 in Lusaka’s PHI area. He is popular for patronizing areas such as Northmead, Manda Hill, Arcades, Longacres, PHI, Emmasdale, Matero, Chawama, Chilenje and Kabwata.

The suspect has since pleaded not guilty after appearing in the Lusaka Magistrates court on 2nd July, 2015. Trial in the matter comes up on 31st July, 2015.

Meanwhile, a 34 year-old male Zambian has been arrested in Botswana for being in possession of cannabis.

Gillian Kabwe, 34, of Maramba Township in Livingstone has been arrested with 10kg of cannabis by the Anti-Narcotic Bureau of Botswana. The suspect was apprehended in Kasane area in Botswana enroute to Francis town.

The suspect is still detained in prison in Kasane, Botswana and will appear in court soon.
