Govt reaffirms commitment to managing Zambia better

Government says it remains committed to improving environment management in the country by ensuring that appropriate policies, plans and programs are put in place.

Land Deputy Minister Davies Mwango says government is aware that in view of the increased countrywide load shedding, deforestation is likely to increase, but that effective measures are in place to protect the country from deforestation.

Mr. Mwango says government is also aware of the impact of deforestation on the country, and has thus put policies in place to conserve the environment.

He has urged charcoal burners to abide by the policies and not take advantage of the load shedding and increase deforestation in the country.

Mr Mwango notes that sustainable management of the environment is critical to the economic development of the nation.
