Ng’oma calls for a Chiefs and politics debate

Political scientist Alex Ng’oma says the interpretation of a republic which means mixed government entails traditional leaders just like any other citizen are free to participate in active politics.

Dr Ng’oma has since called for debate among Zambians on whether traditional leaders should participate in active politics or not.

Dr. Ng’oma notes that a lot of people in Zambia have not bothered to research what it means for Zambia to be called a republic.

In an interview with Qfm News, Dr. Ng’oma states that what is however contrary is the content of the country’s constitution which provides the exact opposite.

He says as a scholar he goes by the principle of political science which sees completely nothing wrong with chiefs getting involved in politics.

Dr Ng’oma has also relied on the fact that Zambia is a republic and therefore traditional leaders are and must be free to participate in politics.

He further thinks that it is a wrong notion to use by suggesting that their involvement in politics poses a greater chance of influencing their subjects to vote a particular way during elections.

Dr. Ng’oma says much as traditional leaders wield certain amount of power to influence, they never drag anyone to vote for a particular candidate.
