Learn from the Greek govt- Zambian govt advised

The Zambian Government has been advised to take a leaf from the Greek Government which is facing a debt crisis because of the decisions made some years back.

Assegai Foundation for Civil Advocacy Executive Director Senzo Mkwananzi says Zambians are aware that Greek debt crisis did not happen overnight, but was triggered by adverse decisions made in 1999.

Mr. Mkwananzi says Greece is now being haunted by the ghost of its past unpopular decisions.

He says Zambia risks finding itself in a similar situation in view of the unilateral decisions being taken by government.

Mr. Mkwananzi points out that the unilateral decision taken by the PF Government to increase the debt ceiling which was increased in 2013 from K20 Billion to K35 Billion and now to K60 Billion is very saddening and not in the interest of the country and the general citizenry.

He says he fears for the future of the country, especially the young generation because it is them who are going to start repaying these loans in 2022.
