Govt advised to reduce missions as part of rationalizing expenditure

Government has been advised to reduce the number of missions abroad as part of rationalizing expenditure in the revised 2015 national budget.

Chairperson on the Expanded Parliamentary Committee on Estimates, Highvie Hamududu has observed that the world is changing and Zambia should follow suit with how big economies are downsizing on foreign missions.

Mr. Hamududu does not think Zambia needs to open up an embassy in a country like Turkey because Zambia can still be advertised to the European country through the internet.

He has told Qfm News that the other thing government can do to rationalize expenditure owing to the projected huge 2015 budget deficit is to consider his earlier proposal of scrapping off the office of District Commissioner.

Mr. Hamududu who is also opposition UPND Bweengwa Member of Parliament has also suggested to government to additionally cut down on the travel budget.

He states that it does not make sense for a Minister for instance to tour construction works on a road when there are already technocrats in the Ministry who should be conducting such tours.
