ZCF to boot mealie meal supply

The Zambia Cooperative Federation (ZCF) says it will this year begin producing and selling mealie meal to boost the supply of the commodity on the local market.

ZCF Executive Director James Chirwa says the cooperative’s involvement in the production and supply of mealie meal will help to boost the availability and stabilize the price of mealie meal on the market.

Mr. Chirwa notes that so far, they have already instructed producers of the equipment to be used in the production of mealie meal to begin working on the equipment and hopes that by the end of the year, everything will be in place in readiness for production to commence.

He adds that apart from helping stabilize the price of mealie meal on the local market, the milling plant will also create job opportunities for the local people as the process of producing and supplying mealie meal will require man power.

Mr. Chirwa has further called on the government to support the plan by his cooperative.
