Late Mwanawasa’s family backs Edgar Lungu

In a statement issued on behalf of the Mwanawasa family, Marriam Mwanawasa the eldest child of the late President says as a family they have taken a bold step to support Mr Lungu because of the good relationship the President Mwanawasa and President Sata enjoyed and the honour that President Sata has bestowed on the Mwanawasa name and legacy.

Ms Mwanawasa says Zambians will remember that when President Michael Sata fell ill in 2008, it took the personal intervention of President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa to save his when Mr. Sata was evacuated from CFB Hospital to Milpark Hospital in South Africa.

She says although the two where political adversaries, this episode brought the two together.

Ms Mwanawasa says the family is happy that as soon as President Michael Chilufya Sata assumed office, he named the Ndola stadium after President Levy Mwanawasa.

She adds that President Sata also named the new Lusaka District Hospital after President Levy Mwanawasa.

She says the family has decided to accept this honour by ensuring that the legacy of President Sata lives on too.

Ms Mwanawasa further states that the family is also happy with the development initiatives taken by the administration of President Sata.

She cites the Link Zambia 8000, Pave Zambia, and the massive infrastructure development of schools, universities, clinics, and hospitals taking place in the country.

Ms Mwansawasa says the Mwanawasa family is therefore urging Zambians to support Mr Lungu who the party has chosen.
