LGAZ to ensure that council retirees are paid their dues

Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) Vice President Jealous Phiri has disclosed that the association is working closely with all local councils to ensure that retires are paid their dues in the shortest period of time.

Mr. Phiri has told Qfm news that although there have been a number of complaints from the retired council workers over delayed payment of their benefits, the association is in serious talks with the ministry of Local Government over the matter.

Mr. Phiri who is also Chipata Mayor says Association attaches great importance to the concerns of the retirees because they worked for the money hence the need to pay them.

He says it is this regard several councils across the country have already started receiving circulars indicating when and how many retirees will be paid before the end of the year.

Mr. Phiri has revealed that so far Chipata municipal council has paid 24 retirees with different packages depending on how long they served.
