CAZ makes citizen’s arrest on Shoprite General Manager Charles Bota

Eleven member of the Cleaning Association of Zambia have been detained after conducting citizen’s arrest on Shoprite Zambia General Manager Charles Bota for allegedly abrogating Statutory Instrument No.22 of 2019 by continuing to use foreign cleaning companies.

Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo has confirmed the development to QTV News.

Ms. Katongo says the 11 people who conducted a citizen arrest on Mr. Bota have been detained for conduct likely to cause the breach of peace.

And Association General Secretary Lawrence Makumbi says it is disappointing that Zambian companies have very little market share in the cleaning industry with foreign companies having the bigger share.

Mr Mukumbi has complained that the continued awarding of cleaning services to foreign companies in shopping malls and other companies is demeaning to local cleaning companies.

He has emphasized that SI Number 22 of 2019 was put in place to protect local companies from exploitation by foreign entities.
