Economic and Equity Party (EEP) President Chilufya Tayali says Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo has shown leadership in reopening the University of Zambia (UNZA) and Copperbelt University (CBU) before month end.

The EEP leader on Thursday staged a lone protest demanding that Minister of Higher Education Nkandu Luo re-opens the two public universities closed following the outbreak of Cholera.

Mr. Tayali tells QTV News that the nation should look at the law to see how they can ensure that the Universities are not closed anyhow, to avoid prolonged years of being at the universities.

He says there should be well defined criteria on what to consider by the Minister before a university is closed.

Mr. Tayali is encouraging Professor Luo to be more engaging and considerate when dealing with the affairs of students and lecturers.

He says there is also need to look at the role of Unions, both for the lectures, as well as other staff at the Universities, and well as student Unions.

He adds that these unions don’t seem to be considered as important stakeholders.
