The opposition Forum for Democracy and Development says the ‘Save FDD Committee’ is illegal and should be treated as an illegal faction.
FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says the FDD constitution clearly stipulates the committees the party has and that the Save FDD committee is not one of them.
Mr. Mwanza says all the activities and pronouncements by the committee are therefore null and void and have no effect on the FDD as a party.
He has also maintained that former FDD Vice President Chifumu Banda remains expelled from the party.
He has since advised all FDD members across the country not to take the Save FDD Committee and Mr Banda seriously.
This morning a group of FDD officials announced the formation of a group called ‘Save FDD Committee’ and have since given the FDD leadership seven days to handover the running of party affairs to the Trustees.
And Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Executive Director Mweenge Chimfwembe says FODEP is willing to provide a platform for dialogue for the warring FDD factions.
Meanwhile political scientist Dr. Alex Ngoma has advised the FDD leadership to avoid weakening the party through fragmentation and unnecessary infighting.
Dr. Ngoma says it is important that the party takes the route of dialogue in addressing the challenges and differences.
