The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has appealed to the Zambian police in the country to uphold the constitution and respect the rights of citizens during the August 11th polls.

FODEP Acting Executive Director Chimfwembe Mweenge says Zambians are what they are today because of their constitution and they should abide by it all times.

He noted that police owe citizens a service and must ensure they are protected without fear or favor.

Mr. Mweenge advised police to be exemplary in their conduct as they handle cases during the elections and avoid unnecessary tension.

He says the police should not to take advantage of the tensed situation to violate human rights during the polls.

Mr. Mweenge reminded them that the primary duty of the Zambian Police is to ensure a safe and peaceful environment and this can be achieved through partnership with the citizens.

Mr. Mweenge further appealed to the police to always work in accordance with the dictates of the code of conduct guiding their duty.
