President Edgar Lungu has reaffirmed that Zambia will continue being a Christian nation.

President Lungu has also asked people in the country to remember this year’s Independence Day theme of laying the foundation for a smart Zambia finding forgiveness, repentance, compassion and love in God.

He says Zambia was delivered from the yoke of slavery and colonial domination because God delighted in the people of Zambia.

President Lungu was speaking this afternoon when he officiated at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a new National House of Prayer in Lusaka which will have a seating capacity of more than 7,500 people.

The House of Prayer will be an interdenominational church building that will be situated in Woodlands Forest area.

And President Lungu has urged people in the Country to be proud that there has been such a phenomenal growth in the profession of Christianity as Zambia’s national faith.

He says he has opted to have National House of prayer in his tenure because each generation has an obligation to honor God and that he wants to honor the lord by leading the Christian fraternity in building him a house.

The President states  that he wants to concretize the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation by raising a memorial to God symbolically in this year of Zambia’s jubilee.

He has also acknowledged that coming to State House and being President of Zambia was not his idea but that it was God who brought him there.

President Lungu says this is why he purposed in his heart to honor God just like the ancient Israel King, David purposed to build a house for God.

He says he is not ashamed therefore to state that if there is a coincidence of his personal faith and the national faith, he will not shy away from using my elevated place in society to advance his Christianity.
