The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested four (04) suspects for being in possession and trafficking in narcotic drugs.
Commission Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo in a statement says those arrested include a 17 year-old boy of Bauleni Compound for trafficking in 10 Sachets of heroin and Kashweka Katayi, 45, a Businessman of Matero Township for trafficking in two (02) sachets of cocaine.
Others arrested include Andrew Kabaghe, 32, a Businessman of Bauleni Compound for being in possession of one sachet of heroin and Nicholas Mphande, 23, also of Bauleni Compound for being in possession of 07 sachets of heroin.
Meanwhile the Commission has in the last two (02) days arrested fifteen (15) people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis.
In North-Western Province the Commission has arrested Biatus Samukonga, 42, a Peasant farmer of Kasamba area in Kabompo District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 250kg and Evans Samuheta, 31, a Peasant farmer of the same area for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 45kg and trafficking in 2.6kg of loose cannabis.
Others arrested and jointly charged in Muchinga Province are Davis Chibesakunda, 67, of Ifunda village in Mpika District and his wife, Ida Chilangu, 50, of the same abode for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 153.4kg and Chisala Katongo, 41, a Charcoal Burner of the same village for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 100.7kg.
The Commission in Muchinga province has also seized 480kg of fresh cannabis plants belonging to Chanda Mulenga of Ifunda village in Mpika District. However, the suspect is on the run and a manhunt has since been launched.
And in Southern Province the Commission has arrested Leonard Hamaili, 51, a Peasant farmer of Keemba village in Monze District for trafficking in 11.3kg of loose cannabis and Chimbe Miyoba, 36, a Peasant Farmer of Miyoba village in Monze District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 5.2kg.
