The Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia has called on the government to consider regulating gambling in the country arguing that it is one of the worst social ills.

Council President Suzyo Zimba says Zambia being a Christian nation should be discouraging such things such as gambling as this is against Christian norms.

Mr. Zimba says there is need for those entrusted with power and authority to govern the country on the basis of the Ten Commandments which will entail the avoidance of all ill social practices such as gambling and consumption of alcohol.

He says people are losing money through gambling instead of investing in productive ventures.

He has also expressed concern at the high rate of alcohol consumption by young people in the country.

The Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia President said this in an interview with QTV News in Lusaka.
