Southern Africa Resource Watch Country Coordinator, Edward Lange has noted the need to review the Mines and Minerals Development Act of 2015 saying it has grey areas making it difficult for the country to benefit from its natural resources.

And Mr. Lange has observed the need to regulate the extractive industry in order to promote transparency and for the government to firmly tax the mining firms in the country.

Speaking to QTV News in an interview, Mr. Lange says because of the weak laws in the mining sector, the nation has not been able to get the much needed taxes from mining companies.

He says in as much as the there is a taxation system that taxes mining companies, it is very clear that what the nation gets does not correspond with the profits made by the mining firms.

Mr Lange states that this is the more reason why some stakeholders feel that the government is too lenient with the mining companies because of having weak laws that seem to favour the investors.
