Political parties regret small scale miners’ death

Various political parties have expressed regret at the death of ten small scale miners at the copper slug dump site in Kitwe commonly known as the black mountain.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary, Mwenya Musenge says the accident at the black mountain could have been avoided.

Mr. Musenge has implored the Mines Safety Department to intensify safety measures at the black mountain to prevent further loss of live.

He has told Q-news that his part is not in any way against mining activities at the black mountain, but is concerned with the safety of those conducting mining activities at the site.

Mr Musenga has since recommended that the dump site should only be reopened after a thorough safety check is undertaken.

And MMD Felix Mutati led faction National Secretary Raphael Nakachinda has described the accident as a tragedy.

Mr. Nakachinda says President Lungu should act on what he has termed as the gross irresponsibility those he had tasked to handle the processes of the Black mountain.

Meanwhile Rainbow Party Copperbelt Information Programs Secretary, Humphrey Kabwe says government should give the black mountain to ZCCM investment holding to manage all the mining activities at the site and be the one to employ people especially young people, in a more organized and transparent manner rather than continue risking the lives of young people.

And United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) President, Charles Chanda has expressed sadness at the untimely death of people who perished at the black mountain.

Mr. Chanda says that it is most regrettable because the deaths could have been avoided.
