Two people have died while nine others sustained serious injuries in road accident which happened today,20th June,2018 around 08:00 hours five kilometers north of Monze district.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says the accident involved a Toyota Ragius registration number ALT 475 with 12 people on board reported to be National Democratic Congress (NDC) members which was being driven by Patrick Phiri one of the deceased.
She says the accident happened when the driver of the motor vehicle tried to overtake a truck and in the process the vehicle careered off the road, hit into a tree and overturned.
Ms Katongo says the victims were rushed to Monze district Hospital where two were pronounced dead, while nine others are admitted.
She adds that one person sustained slight injuries and has been since been treated and discharged.
Ms Katongo says the victims were rushing to attend burial for veteran politician Daniel Munkombwe.
