Govt targets 6,000MW electricity generation by 2030

Government has revealed that it is targeting an electricity generation capacity of 6, 000 megawatts for country by 2030.

Zambia currently generates 3, 100 megawatts of power.

Energy Permanent Secretary, Brigadier General Emelda Chola says in order to achieve this; government is embarking on various programs aimed at diversifying the energy sector.

Speaking when she met an 18 member South African Multisectoral business delegation in Lusaka, General says Zambia is diversifying into renewable energy such as Solar, Wind, Biogas and Biofuel.

She says it is for this reason government is looking for more investors to invest in the sector.

Speaking at the same event, South African Electrotechnical Export Council (SAEEC) Chief Executive Officer, Chiboni Evans says her organization is looking for ways of how they can build capacity with Zambian institutions.

And speaking earlier, South Africa Department of Trade and Industry Director, Karabo Modimokwane says South African Businesses are looking for projects where they can partner with Zambians not only to sale, but to invest in Zambia.
