State House will not comment on FIC report – Chanda

State House says President Edgar Lungu is not going to malign anyone in order to be seen to be fighting corruption.

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda says President Lungu’s fight against corruption is not simply to malign individuals.

Mr. Chanda states that President Lungu’s commitment to the fight against the vice is already in public domain.

In an interview with QTV News by telephone, Mr. Chanda says what President Lungu and the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) promised in the 2016 -2021 manifesto is very clear.

Mr. Chanda says the President is taking decisions to ensure institutional reforms deliver the desired results by capacitating relevant government institutions.

He has cited the passing of the Public Finance Management Act as one such decision the Head of State has taken to enhance public finance management in the Country.

Mr. Chanda says President Lungu is taking an institutional reform approach to the fight against corruption and that these are the messages he is communicating with the public which are also making the ruling PF win elections.

Asked what the Presidency’s position is on calls by the ruling PF for the dismissal of Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) Director General Mary Tshuma over the FIC’s recent report, Mr. Chanda declined to comment, adding the State House will also not comment on the contents of the FIC report.
