The Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ) has advised teachers against having sexual relationships with pupils saying such acts are denting the teaching profession.

SESTUZ General Secretary, Sitibekiso Wamuyuwa tells QTV News that such vices are bringing discomfort in the parents and guardians who send their children to school.

Mr. Wamuyuwa says teachers are supposed to be role models and should protect the children in school and not engage them in negative vices.

He says it is extremely shameful that some teachers have opted to take the route of abusing pupils when their sole purpose is to protect and teach them good morals.

Meanwhile, Advocacy against Child Abuse and Gender Based Violence Executive Director, Bellion Chola says teachers who abuse pupils deserve to be handed stiffer punishment and not merely suspending them.
