State substitutes indictment in Kambwili’s 37 counts case

KambwiliThe State has substituted the indictment in a matter in which Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili is charged with 37 counts of forgery, uttering false documents and giving false information to a public officer.

The fresh indictment has seen number of counts increased to 39, with Mr Kambwili now jointly charged with his son Mwamba Kambwili and Mwamona Engineering, employees Lukwesa Musonda and Mulenga Kapilima and the company’s chief executive officer.

When the matter came up this morning before Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile, Mr. Kambwili and his four co-accused could not take plea because the Chief Executive Officer of Mwamona Engineer was not present in Court.

Magistrate Mikalile has since adjourned the matter to the 15th of June for plea after the State sought an adjournment.

She has also extended Mr. Kambwili’s bail.

In this matter, Mr. Kambwili, who is also a consultant for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been charged with among other offences, possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime contrary to section 71 (1) of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.

It is alleged that Mr. Kambwili and his son Mwamba on September 2016 in Lusaka, jointly and whilst acting together did have under their possession K480, 000 in a bank account domiciled at First National Bank (FNB) Zambia, property reasonably suspected of being a proceed of crime.

Mr. Kambwili had earlier pleaded not guilty to all offences in the earlier indictment.
