Savenda General Insurance Limited has paid out a total of US$279,585 in claims to a farmer from Mkushi District in Central Province whose wheat farm was gutted by fire including agricultural machinery.

Speaking during the handover of a cheque in Lusaka, Savenda General Insurance Limited Chief Executive Officer, Irene Muyenga said this is a huge milestone for the insurance company because it is paying such a huge amount despite only being in operation for one year.

Ms Muyenga says the fire happened in October last year, but that the payment was delayed because the reinsurance company is abroad and therefore sending a payment of that nature was somehow difficult.

She says the payment at some point was recalled after the reinsurance company sent the money to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

And Waka Waka Ranch owner Newton Young said he is pleased that the insurance company has paid his claim after he insured his farm together with the equipment.
