The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) says the decision by President Lungu to increase both fuel and electricity prices is a disastrous move to the economy as it will automatically push prices of essential goods.

The opposition political party feels that President Lungu’s press conference on Thursday was expected to give practical solutions to the economic crisis the PF has plunged the nation in and not to cause more damage to it.

UPND Chairman for Rural Reconstruction and Development Moono Mapani says the cost of doing business in the country will go up because the prices of electricity and fuel will go up.

Mr. Mapani says this is a clear indication that the President has no clear vision as he told Zambians during campaigns early this year that he had no vision.

And Mr. Mapani says President Lungu was misinformed that government through the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has paid farmers who supplied their maize to FRA on time.

Mr. Mapani says the Head of State was not told the truth by the Agriculture Minister as most farmers are struggling to buy farming inputs because FRA has not paid them as per agreement.
