ZRA Livingstone tax system collapses

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) tax collection system in Livingstone is said to have collapsed leading to long queues of people trying to clear their vehicles.

Information reaching Qfm News suggests that with exception for Katima Mulilo Boarder offices, the system at the ZRA offices in Livingstone and Kazungula have been down for the last four days.

It has however believed that ZRA has since contracted private clearing and forwarding companies to process tax collection on its behalf.
And UPND Livingstone District spokesperson Nato Halwabala says his party has information that one of the prominent clearing and forwarding companies that has been contracted by ZRA is SDV.

Mr. Halwabala tells Qfm News from Livingstone that SDV is believed to have only been engaged today, 25th November following numerous complaints over delays being caused the collapsed system.

He says what is worrying is that this situation could only be a recipe for corruption.

Efforts to get a comment from the ZRA Head office in Lusaka proved futile.

ZRA Corporate and Communication manager Mumbuna Kufekisa said he could not comment on the matter without cross checking the reports.
