Special Assistant to the President for Projects Monitoring and Implementation Lucky Mulusa says the country has seen unprecedented Infrastructural development since 1974.

Mr. Mulusa says government is undertaking many infrastructural developments to help alleviate the plight of the people and raise their standard of living.

Speaking when officiated at the 2015 construction and Engineering Expo organized by the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors in Lusaka today, Mr. Mulusa says though the government is faced with economic challenges at the moment, the kinds of developmental projects currently going on across the country cannot be overlooked.

And Mr. Mulusa says it’s worrying that 90 percent of infrastructure development projects are being undertaken by foreign companies.

He says this highlights some of the common inefficiencies that still exist in the construction industry and the effect these practices are having on productivity.

Mr. Mulusa states that these inefficiencies in the construction industry are making government fail to meet its obligation of timely payments.

And Speaking at the same event Association of building and Civil Engineering Contractors President Michael Nyirenda has appealed to the Ministry of Works and Supply to look into the Modality of implementing the Statutory Instrument no.39 of 2015.

Mr. Nyirenda says contractors are worried on the modalities of the SI no. 39 of 2015 on the project registration.

He says Contractors feel that enough time is needed to sensitize them and clients alike before the SI can comes into force.
