GBM Milling Proprietor Geoffrey Mwamba has spelt doom for solar powered milling plants being established countrywide by government through the Zambia Cooperative Federation ZCF.

Mr. Mwamba says the milling plants will not last beyond six months before they start giving problems.

He says from the experience he has had in running a milling company, he has learnt that pilferage is the leading cause of failure of milling companies in Zambia.

Mr. Mwamba has told Qfm News that sooner than later the milling plants government is establishing will only become beneficial to the managers who will be running them.

He says the pilferage in the milling industry requires keeping eye on the business 24/7 which he doubts is possible in a government business.

Mr. Mwamba adds that his doubts on the sustainability of the milling plants are further backed by the precedent under the UNIP government.

He recalls how under the UNIP government the milling companies that were nationalized ended up being dysfunctional as government could not cope with the losses they were incurring.

Mr. Mwamba states that the same is bound to happen to the solar powered milling plants government is putting up countrywide.
