Coalition cautions Lungu against abandoning new constitution

The ruling PF has been cautioned to be wary that it will be solely to blame if amendments to the Country’s constitution in Parliament fail.

The PF is being reminded to keep in mind that it is a fact that apart from joining hands with the opposition MMD, it is the majority in Parliament with practically 109 MPs.

The Grand Coalition on the Campaign for People Driven Constitution says this means that if there is any scheme to make the constitution fail in Parliament, the scheme is by the ruling PF itself.

Chairperson Leonard Chiti says his Coalition to this end strongly believes that the failure of this process in parliament lies squarely on the President Edgar Lungu’s head, shoulder and hands.

Father Chiti has told Qfm News in a statement that his Coalition is of the view that President Lungu cannot therefore escape blame.

He says his Coalition has to this effect case taken note of what President Lungu said on Thursday the 19th of November that he if the constitutional amendment bill was not passed in Parliament, he will keep away from it, vowing that he would not also touch it in future.

Father Chiti says by saying this President Lungu has in fact acknowledged that he set up the Constitution to fail by taking it to Parliament.

He states that his Coalition suspects that President Lungu wants to hoodwink the people of Zambia so that they can blame parliamentarians the PF’s failure to deliver a new constitution before 2016.

Father Chiti says the Grand Coalition asserts that President Lungu cannot however wash his hands off the constitution at this moment, when it has been his alleged intention all along, to see the process fail.

He has wondered what kind of a leader President Lungu will make by washing his hands off his responsibilities after making many public promises to deliver a new constitution.

Father Chiti states that his Coalition however reminds President Lungu that if he washes off his hands on the constitution, he will have also washed off his hands on the Presidency.

He notes that the people of Zambia will too wash him off from office in 2016 as they are not foolish and cannot be easily misled.
