ZCID speaks against banishing of political parties

Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) says there should never be any place in Zambia where members of one political party should be banished from because an area is considered to be a stronghold of another political party.

ZCID Executive Director Horrance Chilando in a statement says no party owns a piece of land in Zambia.

He says every citizen has the right to go wherever they choose to as long as they do this within the provisions of the law.

Mr. Chilando says political parties should not resort to physically removing each other from certain areas but engage in a battle of wits; convincing people with their programmes.

He states that provoking each other does not amount to political superiority, but actually reveals failure to reason on the part of those who perpetrate that kind of political behavior.

Mr. Chilando adds that Police should also understand that Zambia is a democratic country and any attempt to restrict meetings of any political party goes against the spirit of the Constitution.

He has also urged political parties to find better ways to express themselves than resorting to breaking the law.
