Road to Moscow will not be easy – Mweene

Zambia goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene says the hard work on the road to the Moscow 2018 World Cup has just began.

Mweene on Sunday captained Zambia to a 2-0 home win over Sudan in a 2018 second round, final leg qualifier played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Zambia advanced to the group stage 3-0 on aggregate following a 1-0 first leg victory on November 11 away in Karima.

“I think we will take it is one game at a time and we just have to prepare well for the group stage where we will play six games,” Mweene said.

“We will find a lot of obstacles. We really need to prepare very well just like the coach has pointed out.”

The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper captained Zambia in the absence of midfielder Rainford Kalaba who was who missed the match due to a fever.

Meanwhile, goals by Lubambo Musonda and Winston Kalengo in the 58th and 80th minutes respectively secured Zambia’s passage to the league phase qualifiers.

Kalengo’s goal was his second in successive games after also scoring in the first leg away in Sudan.

Zambia, who have never qualified for the World Cup, will join twenty other teams in the group stage draws where they will battle for Africa’s five slots at the Moscow finals.
