The light carriers mission (LCM) has expressed concern over some traders who are taking advantage of the depreciation of the kwacha to exploit consumers through the pricing of goods and services.

LCM Project Director Bernard Mwanda says it is sad that some traders are uncontrollably increasing prices even when the goods in question have nothing to do with the dollar.

Mr. Mwanda says much as the kwacha has not been performing well, it is disappointing that unscrupulous traders are taking advantage of the situation to punish consumers with exorbitant prices.

He has wondered why traders are swift to increase their price when the kwacha depreciates and yet develop feet when it appreciates citing that this is against good business practice and is frustrating government efforts to stabilize the current situation.

Mr. Mwanda has called on the government to put in place measures that will ensure that consumers are protected from this kind of exploitation adding that businesses cannot continue to make supernatural profits at the expense of poor hardworking Zambians.

He further states that at the rate at which things are moving, consumers will forever be on the losing side hence the need for the government to continue looking for ways in which consumers can be protected.
