ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata has advised Zesco customers to embrace the latest project of installing pre-paid meters on electricity poles saying it is helping to fight illegalities.

Mr. Kapata tells QFM News that the split meters which are mounted on electricity poles are enabling Zesco to monitor illegality and misuse of power.

Mr. Kapata has explained that the new system is helping in reducing vandalism and theft of Zesco property as they are mounted in open places making it difficult for vandals to touch or tamper with them.

He says this year alone, about twenty seven houses have been gutted due to illegality related cases and thus the need for the people to embrace this new technology.

Mr. Kapata says the new technology is helping the power utility company save revenue as colossal sums of money are spent on replacing vandalized and stolen Zesco property.

He says this new technology has so far being installed in Misisi, Kanyama, Chazanga, Mandemvu and Chipata compounds in order to address the challenges of illegalities.
