Chipolopolo captain Rainford Kalaba and defender Dauti Musekwa have both been ruled out of Sunday’s 2018 Fifa World Cup second round, second leg qualification match against Sudan.

National team physician Dr. Joseph Kabungo told fazfootball.com on Saturday that Kalaba had developed a fever and had been given seven days’ rest.

“Kalaba had a fever yesterday (Friday) and he is still feeling weak so he has been given seven days to rest,” Kabungo said on the sideline of the team’s Saturday afternoon training.

Kalaba was absent from Friday’s afternoon training session and sat out of training on Saturday.

Kabungo further stated that Musekwa had suffered a hamstring injury when the team travelled to Angola a week ago.

“Dauti has a hamstring injury which he sustained in Angola; we have been trying to rehabilitate him and should be out of action for three weeks,” he said.

In Kalaba’s absence coach George Lwandamina could introduce Evans Kangwa who joined camp on Thursday.

Spencer Sautu and Mwape Mwelwa are possible options to replace Kalaba.

Zambia enjoys a 1-0 aggregate lead going into the second leg scheduled to kick off at 3pm at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday.
