Yaluma echoes President Lungu’s call on failing mines

Mines Minister Christopher Yaluma has echoed President Edgar Lungu’s call for mining companies to handover the mines if they have failed to run their operations.

Mr. Yaluma says the position of the government is that if mining companies have fail to manage the mines to the extent of threatening jobs, government will take over the mines in the interim until such a time when suitable investors have been found.

Mr. Yaluma tells QFM News that if some mining companies have failed to run the mines, they will do well to handover the mining assets, stating that government does not want to see the closure of mining companies.

He says government wants to see negotiations between mine owners and trade unions conducted in a mature manner on the operational challenges the mining sector is facing.

The Mines Minister adds that government will not accept any arm twisting by the mining companies.
