Health Minister Joseph Kasonde has explained the delay in completing the construction of 650 health posts countrywide.

Dr. Kasonde is however optimistic that the 2016 completion deadline will be met.

He says there has been an interruption of works on the health posts because of the poor performance by one of the contractors Angelique International Limited.

Dr. Kasonde explains that the company won the tender to construct rural health posts in North-Western, Northern, Muchinga and Luapula Provinces at a total cost of $18.1 million.

He has also acknowledged that the construction of some health posts in some of the opposition constituencies has not yet commenced.

He however states that the delay commencing works on the health post in some areas will not affect the deadline.

Dr. Kasonde adds that none of the 650 health posts has been completed so far.
