ECZ confident of attaining target of 1.7 million new voters

Priscilla Isaacs ECZThe Electoral Commission of Zambia is confident it will meet the target of registering 1.7 million new voters ahead of the 2016 general election.

ECZ Director Priscilla Isaacs says with intensified sensitization to encourage eligible voters to register, the target looks attainable.

She however says more needs to be done and has called on the media to help sensitize people to register as voters.

Ms. Isaacs has also encouraged others stakeholders to compliment the Commission’s efforts by encouraging people to register as voters.

Meanwhile The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) is happy that its “go to register campaign” has so far achieved its goal of encouraging as many people as possible to register as voters.

FODEP Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi says the programme has helped in reaching the number the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has attained so far in terms of voter registration.

He has since appealed to those that have not yet registered as voters to use the period to register as voters so that they exercise their right to vote.

Mr. Chipenzi adds that their campaign does not end when the mobile voter registration exercise ends, but will go on until July 2016 so that people can continue to register.
