AVAP calls on ECZ to extend voter registration

Anti Voter Apathy has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to extend the period for the voters’ registration exercise to enable all eligible Zambians to register.

AVAP Executive Director Richwell Mulwani notes that the ultimate goal of the exercise was to pAVAP-Director-Richwell-Mulwanirovide the opportunity for every eligible voter to exercise his or her democratic right to register as a voter.

He says much as the ECZ insists on sticking to deadline, it is worth considering that every citizen is offered the opportunity to participate in the democratic development of the country.

Mr. Mulwani states that this is also considering that the exercise itself has been marred with some challenges such as inadequate registration materials.

He says this inhibited many anxious people to register within the time limit.

Mr Mulwani states that a good voters’ roll is the backbone of an election and ECZ should seriously take all concerns from all stakeholders particularly political parties and observers as this can affect the credibility of the harmonized 2016 elections.
