Operation Young Vote (OYV) has intensified its efforts of encouraging more Zambians to take advantage of the countrywide mobile voter registration exercise.

This follows its realization that with just 6 days remaining before the mobile voter registration exercise comes to an end the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has only managed to do just above 50 percent of its 1.7 million targeted roll of new entrants of new voters.

OYV Executive Director Guess Nyirenda says his organization has to this effect decided to speed up its efforts sensitizing people to register as voters by modifying its “Lembe Sani Ma Vote Voter Sensitization” to On the Bus Lembe Sani Ma Vote Voter Sensitization.”

Mr. Nyirenda has told Qfm News in an interview that with this modification OYV field officers are now boarding public transport to interact with people travelling from Lusaka to other cities and towns within the Country.

He says this strategy of targeting already mobilized groups of people is also being undertaken on local public transport routes within Lusaka.

Mr. Nyirenda states that the intention of his organization is to ensure that at least the 80 percent of targeted number of new voters are captured in the ongoing mobile registration exercise.
