Barotse National Freedom Alliance Trustee William Harrington has observed the need for the Enquiries Act to be amended in order to provide for mandatory publication of commission of Enquiries Reports and recommendation in the public interest.

Mr. Harrington says this is because the country has continued to loose huge sums of money on commissions of enquiries but their reports have never been made public for reasons best known to the government.

Mr. Harrington says the case in point is the Dr. Rodger Chongwe – led Commission of enquiry appointed by late President Michael Sata on the 14th January 2010 Mongu disturbances when some unarmed and defenseless youths were killed and many others are allegedly disappeared in an unexplained circumstance.

He says to add salt to the injury occasioned to the affected relatives and friends, Vice President Inonge Wina has failed, neglect or ignored to honor the assurance she made several months ago in Parliament that government will make public the Dr. Rodger Chongwe Report.

Mr. Harrington, who is also former Transport and Communications Minister, says he supports the call by the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction to appoint a commission of enquiry into the recent disturbances at Copperbelt University though it will be a costly exercise in futility if at the end of the exercise the report is not made public.
