ECZ urged to consider extending voter registration

Youth Development Organization Executive Director Partner Siabutuba has urged Electoral Commission of Zambia to consider extending the voter registration exercise after 11th November when the exercise comes to an end.

Mr. Siabutuba says citizenry will blame ECZ if they fail to get national documentation such as the voter’s cards and national registration cards.

He noted that the voter Registration exercise and National registration exercise should have commenced at the time to capture a large number of people.

Mr. Siabutuba noted that the exercise currently is disadvantaging a large number of people adding that some youth are still facing challenges in obtaining the national identity card.

He has noted that in some parts of southern province the voter registration exercise started late a situation he described as disfranchising their rights.

Meanwhile Choma District Commissioner Sheena Muleya says acquiring a national registration card is a right of every citizen.

Ms Muleya has since urged youths who have attained 18 years of age to get their National Registration Cards to ensure that they get their national identity and register as voters in readiness for the General Elections next year.
