Zanaco coach Mumamba Numba says his team’s emphatic win over demoted National Assembly is a clear statement that they mean business in their battle to finish second.

The six-time champions beat bottom-of-the-table Assembly 4-1 to stay second (57 points) and three points ahead of Power Dynamos (54 points) with two games left to play.

“I think this win is the step in the right direction because we planned to win this game so that we maintain our lead over Power Dynamos,” Numba said.

“We are at a crucial stage at the moment so we must try to win both our remaining games so that we finish second and play in the continental competition.”

A second place finish in the Faz Super League guarantees a place in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Zesco United will represent Zambia in the Champions League after retaining their title with two games to spare on an unassailable 64 points.

Zanaco’s ambitions for that runners-up finish will be tested this Saturday when they visit Zesco in Ndola during the penultimate weekend of the 2015 season.

“We have two games left, all we need is to fight and beat Zesco at their home ground and we will be home and dry,” Numba said.

Zanaco have not finished in the top two since winning the Faz Super League title in 2012.
