Political leaders today put their political differences aside as they joined in marking the first anniversary of the passing of President Michael Sata who died at King George hospital in London last year.

And there was loud applause as President Edgar Lungu and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema shook hands after Father Charles Chilinda had invited all political leaders present to the front and asked them to sing along as the choir sung President Sata’s favourite song Tutemwane bane bonse during a memorial service held at St Ignatius Catholic church this morning.

Fr Chilinda has urged all political players in the country to genuinely reconcile saying late Republican President Michael Sata would have loved to see a united political front.

In his homily during the memorial service, Fr Chilinda said President Sata preached love and reconciliation hence the need for all politicians in the country to reconcile genuinely.

He advised politicians to forego the hatred they harbor for each other and love one another from today going forward.

Father Chilinda has challenged political party leaders to come together and put their heads together and manage the politics and economy of the nation well.

He said it is hoped that this is the new beginning for political party leaders to work together for the benefit of the nation unlike what has been prevailing lately in the nation.

Fr. Chilinda recalled how he advised President Sata to reconcile with late President Levy Mwanawasa and the late Head of State heed to the advice and went ahead and reconciled with President Mwanawasa.

And Fr. Chilinda says President Sata cared more for the poor as his political party was built on the basis of helping the poor.

He has since advised the PF to remain focused on uplifting the lives of the poor people.

Fr. Chilinda reminded those in government that they would not have been where they are today if it was not for the efforts and hard work of late President Sata.

The memorial service will later proceed to Embassy Park for the unveiling of the tombstone at the late President’s grave and laying of wreaths.
