Zambia marks 51 years of Independence

Zambia has today Saturday the 24th of October marked its 51st Independence anniversary from colonial rule.

This year’s Independence Day is being commemorated under the theme: Laying the foundation for a smart Zambia, finding forgiveness, repentance, compassion and love in God.

And President Edgar Lungu this morning in Lusaka led King Mswati III of Swaziland, defense Chiefs and foreign dignitaries in laying wreaths at the Freedom Statue in honor of Zambia’s fallen freedom fighters.

Meanwhile independence celebrations are underway at Lusaka’s Heroes stadium where hundreds of Zambians and invited guests are gathered to observe the Day.

President Lungu and King Mswati who is the guest of honor are expected to deliver speeches before the two leaders release balloons at an event that has been characterize by dance and music.

By post time President Lungu and King Mswati had only made their grand entry at Hero’s stadium.

And according to a program obtained by Qfm News the republican President and the visiting King are expected to have lunch together at State House after the celebrations at Hero’s stadium.

Both the Head of State and his special guest will be in the company of their spouses First lady Esther and her royal highness the Inkhosikati respectively.

King Mswati is also scheduled to make his reciprocal remarks at State House.
