Lwandamina excited by new call-ups

Zambia coach George Lwandamina is happy with what he has seen so far from his three new call-ups summoned for 2016 Caf African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifiers training camp in Lusaka this week.

The trio includes in-form Zesco United midfielder Mwape Mwelwa, Zanaco striker Moses Phiri and Green Eagles midfielder Mwila Phiri.

“The three players have done well and brought element of competition. They have really helped the team not to stay complacent,” Lwandamina said.

“We still have another half so we need to approach it with a lot of positives.”

Lwandamina went on to say that the team is 75 per cent ready for the return leg match to be played this Sunday away at Machava Stadium in Maputo.

Zambia are scheduled to leave for Maputo on Friday ahead of Sunday’s decider.

Meanwhile, Zambia enjoy a 3-0 home lead from the final round, first leg match played on October 17 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Maputo.

An away draw will suffice to see Zambia through to January’s Chan finals to be hosted by Rwanda.

Zambia have failed to qualify for the last two editions of the tournament since making their debut at the inaugural championship hosted by Cote d’Ivoire in 2009.
