Govt urged to involve civil society,private sector in SDGs implementation

Government has been urged to create an enabling environment for civil society organizations and the private sector to participate fully in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) Executive Director Patrick Nshindano says government should take note that the SDGs recognize the multi stakeholders approach and the role every sector has to play to attain the Goals.Patrick-Nshindano

He says there is need for government to endeavor to engage the private sector in the implementation of the SDGs by creating a comprehensive mechanism of engagement that would result in a win-win situation.

Mr Nshindano has also urged government to closely monitor the implementation of the various

programmes and initiatives if it is to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Shindano says in order for government to effectively implement SDGs, it must give priority to the national response that creates an environment with greater social justice and equity in accessing fundamental drivers of development.

He says Zambia needs to develop capacity to capture revenues from its vast natural resources and equitably allocate them to promote inclusive growth and development.

Mr. Shindano has since urged all stakeholders to contribute to the shaping, advancement and implementation of sustainable development agenda.
