ECZ warns against multiple voter registration

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has warned the public that registering as a voter more than once is an offence and is subject to prosecution.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna in a statement to QFM News has however, assured all stakeholders tAkufunahat despite the possibility of people being able to register more than once and obtain more than one voters card during the ongoing registration exercise, the Commission will be able to detect all those who have registered more than once at the time of compiling the voters register.

Mr Akufuna says therefore, there will be no possibility of the culprits having a chance to vote more than once as the Commission has biometric systems that can detect double registrations on the register.

He has since warned members of the public that law will take its course on anyone found engaging in any malpractices during the voter registration exercise.

The Commission’s warning follows reports of incidents in Ndola and Chipata of double or triple voter registration in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
