ZCSD advises Lungu to avoid suppressung 2016 national budget

The Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) has appealed to President Edgar Lungu to avoid giving directives that will suppress the budget.

ZCSD Executive Secretary Lewis Mwape says much as traditional leaders deserve an increment in their allowances, it is important that the increments pass through the due process of negotiations.

And Mr. Mwape says government should also look at what is available at the treasury before increasing salaries for civil servants to avoid putting pressure on the budget.

He however, notes that it is good that the civil servants salaries’ have been increased, stating that this will in turn will help reduce the high levels of poverty in the country.

Mr Mwape has however wondered where the money will come from.

He says it is ZCSD’s hope that the increment in salaries is done in good faith which is to uplift the living standards of the people.
