George Lwandamina says he will not rush teenage striker Conlyde Luchanga following the players’ dream Zambia debut on Saturday.

The 18-year-old Lusaka Dynamos striker came on in the 73rd minute to replace Festus Mbewe during Zambia’s 3-0 home win over Mozambique in a 2016 Chan qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola and found the back of the net a few minutes later.

“If we had started him, maybe he was going to fail and maybe that was going to be his end,” Lwandamina said.

“As a coach you don’t get excited but take time. We are in the nurturing process so we cannot put him in the thick of things so when the game became lighter it was good for him to come on and he showed he was on his way.”

Luchanga headed in Zambia’s second goal in the 80th minute off a Charles Zulu cross after striker Winston Kalengo had put the hosts ahead three minutes earlier.

Spencer Sautu scored Zambia’s final goal in stoppage time to hand the home side a healthy advantage to take into final leg in Maputo on October 24.

The striker, who joined promoted Dynamos this year from lower tier side Mazabuka United, has also made an instant impression at his new club scoring 8 goals this season.
