The Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia has expressed concern on the reduction of excise tax on clear beer.

Supreme Council President Suzyo Zimba says reducing tax on clear beer is encouraging people to consume more alcohol than normal.

Mr. Zimba notes that in a Christian nation, it is expected that tax on beer would be increased as a way of discouraging people to consume more alcohol citing that when people consume too much, they become less productive.

He says with people consuming more, it is difficult to progress as more time is spent drinking and less time on productive activities.

Mr. Zimba has further encouraged the people of Zambia to try hard to be productive and concentrate less on wasting time on things such as alcohol.
